Ted embodies the spirit of Black Men Teach in the classroom—empowering students, modeling excellence, and cultivating a learning environment rooted in purpose, representation, and integrity. As a teacher, their impact goes beyond academics, shaping the hearts and minds of future leaders while uplifting the community they serve. This is his story. This is his story.

Hello reader, thanks for reading my story!

I grew up in Buea, Cameroon (Africa) and moved to Minnesota in 2000. At age 13, I attended Central High School and later the University of Minnesota, where I graduated in 2009 with a major in Biology, Society, and Environment.

However, my passion for working with children gave me the motivation to pursue a teaching license at Augsburg College, which I obtained in 2014. I also worked as a substitute teacher at North Park Elementary and several other schools around the Twin Cities metropolitan area for four years.

In addition to teaching, I love reading books, traveling to new places, going on new adventures, camping during the summer, and playing and watching sports.

2

What does it mean to be a Black male teacher?

It is a vital role in our society that goes beyond teaching. It is a role that advocates for our Black students and relates to them through shared experiences and cultural relevance.
